Aeropress is an ideal brewing device for camping trips and for people who are always on an adventure. Though to make the best cup it is best for brewing a single cup at a time. This method of brew uses a thin filter and pressure to force water through the coffee. Allowing to properly brew a specialty cup. Coffee brewed through aeropress has a similar body as coffee brewed in a pour over. Though the way aeropress is brewed it is technically not espresso although the method of using pressure is similar. But for those who love espresso, this will be your closest method to that but in a brewed cup of coffee.

Necessities

  • Aeropress
  • Gooseneck Kettle
  • Coffee Scale (grams option required)
  • Filters for Aeropress (note: pour over filters are different from Aeropress)
  • Ground Coffee

Coffee & Water

250g water / 18g coffee

STEP 1

With your kettle, rinse the paper filter. This will ensure no paper-like taste that may appear in your brew. Lastly, this will pre-heat the brewer.

STEP 2

After rinsing the filter , place the filter in the filter cap and attach it to the brew chamber. Position the brewer on top of a mug. For better quality, pre-heating the mug before placing the brewer is recommended.

STEP 3

Weigh the coffee. Adjust your scale allowing you to appropriately weigh them in grams (g).

STEP 4

Once weighed to 18g of coffee, put the grounded coffee in the brew chamber. The funnel will help prevent the coffee from spilling or causing any residues to the inside walls of the brewer.

STEP 5

Start your timer and pour 40 grams of water into the brew chamber. Immediately stir with the paddle (included with Aeropress package) to ensure the water infuses with the grounds. The saturation of the coffee during the blooming process will allow more notable flavors to appear as you enjoy your cup.

STEP 6

After a minute of blooming, add the 210 grams of water for a total of 250 grams. Immediately stir back and forth for 10-15 seconds enough to not overflow the brew chamber.

STEP 7

Place the plunger into the brew chamber. This is only to keep the brew from spilling out of the filter cap. This will prevent any residue from occurring on the filter cap.

STEP 8

Allow the coffee to brew for 2-4 minutes more. The less brew time in this method will have a brighter profile in the cup. As for more brew time, the cup will have a more velvety/sweeter profile.

STEP 9

After brewing the coffee for about 2-4 minutes, push the plunger down until it is completely pressed against the coffee grounds. This should take at 25-35 seconds. If you see any brewed coffee spill out from the sides that means you are pushing too hard. Not too fast and not too slow should ensure a more balanced profile in your coffee.
